NFT Revolution: Minting Song About Vitalik Buterin as a Free NFT

  • The song, created by Gigamesh and Ben Jones, is available for free download via Web3 music
  • Over 27,000 free NFTs of the song have already been produced

From the Zeus-like Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto to the hero-turned-villain Sam Bankman-Fried and his formerly friend-turned-nemesis, the ever-mysterious Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, the crypto community has historically crowned several male founders with reputations so epic they border on myth.

However, none of them have yet been compared, in a rollicking Eurodisco dance track, to Rasputin, the legendary Russian mystic and holy figure whose empire was destroyed. This all changed this week with the release of “V Buterin,” a tune that was inspired by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin. The song can be downloaded for free via Web3 music service Sound.xyz.

New Tune In The World

Gigamesh, a co-founder of pseudonymous Sound.xyz, and Ben Jones, a co-founder of the Ethereum scaling solution Optimism (who now reportedly goes by “Weird ETH Yankovic”) have teamed up to release a rollicking Vitalik-themed record in the vein of Boney M’s well-known 1978 dance music “Rasputin.”

Gigamesh went on twitter to congratulate Sound.xyz and said that he was honored to be asked to spice up his latest masterpiece to celebrate the occasion which is an ode to Vitalik Buterin

The song continues by detailing Buterin’s incredible climb to fame for creating the Ethereum network and winning the love of the crypto community. There have been several changes from the original track, of course; for example, “V Buterin” is now, presumably as a praise, labeled “Ain’t no Charles Hoskinson,” whereas the “Rasputin” chorus described the shadowy Czarist hypnotist as “lover of the Russian Queen.”

In an effort to reduce costs for musicians wishing to sell songs on the blockchain and get money directly with fans, Sound.xyz said on Monday that it is moving outside the Ethereum mainnet to enable Optimism compatibility. They further said that Collectors are the heart of Sound. “We wouldn’t exist without all 15,000 amazing collectors who show up to support music.”

The “V Buterin” tune was made in commemoration of the event by the founders of both groups, who also launched it on the Optimism network via Sound.xyz. More than 27,000 free NFTs of the song have already been produced, and more will be produced until June 19.

The tweet stated, “On the collectors side: not only do music NFTs allow collectors to directly support their favorite artists, but onchain provenance brings proof of fanhood, opening the door to a variety of collector perks.”

The Optimism network is releasing an open-edition music NFT to commemorate the launch of soundxyz  on OP Mainnet. This NFT is  created by none other than Optimism Co-founder Ben Chain  and Sound Co-founder Gigamesh.
